CATARACTS

Cataract is the condition where the clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy or misty. This is a gradual process that usually happens as we get older. The treatment for cataract involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a plastic lens referred to as “implant”.

Cataracts often take some years to get to the stage where surgery is required. In the early stages you may notice your vision gradually getting hazy and you may be more dazzled by glare from the sun or car headlights. Your glasses may need to be updated more frequently as the cataract develops. Your optometrist will be able to advise you when surgery is indicated and refer you to hospital for this.
